L.A. Buckner

“...like a feast for the ears—at once invoking the sounds of our childhood, of our time, and of a community.” — Nick Gomez, The Fusion Press

Imagine a three-year-old Arthur sitting in church: enraptured, fixated, and fully locked into the drums. Recognizing the spark, his father bought him his very first kit shortly after. He hasn't stopped playing since.

“I'm a teaching artist. I'm a musician. And I make Black music,” L.A. shared with Jackie Renzetti on The Current. “It's a combination of hip-hop, jazz, gospel, R&B, rock and roll. All things Black American music, that's what I make… It’s heavy. It’s Black. It’s loud. It’s sensitive. It’s full of energy. That’s my sound.”

That explosive energy has earned him serious waves both on the charts and in the classroom. In 2020, L.A. took iTunes by storm with his project BiG HOMiE, which rocketed to the #1 Jazz position within 24 hours of its release. A vital pillar of the Twin Cities music scene, he was also named the 2024 Music Educator of the Year by the Minnesota Music Education Association.

When you see him live, expect a flurry of arms and drumsticks delivering compositions that effortlessly blur the line between a Sunday church service and a face-melting jam session.

Beige Records is proud to present the upcoming works from L.A. Buckner and BiG HOMiE (plus one secret project soon to be unmasked).
